veganism: really?
As the evidence grows, I find myself being drawn more and more toward the odd eating habits of the vegans, or at least toward vegetarianism. I don’t know if I’ll ever give up eggs and cheese. Here are a few of the things pushing my hand.
1. I don’t really like meat that much. Eating meat sort of makes me sick. In fact, most of the time when I am eating some place, I choose something with a lesser portion of meat.
2. Animal cruelty is heightened by the full-blown industrialization of animal farming. The animals aren’t treated like living things anymore. I feel like I have a moral obligation to protest for the voiceless. One of the best ways to protest a product you no longer like is to stop buying it.
3. Eating meat is starting to get dangerous. No, seriously. Do you really want something that was injected with steroids and lived in squalid conditions during the short term of its entire depressed life inside of you? Do you really want mercury and weird hormones in your blood stream? Of course, I also drink alcohol and smoke hookah and other things (ahem), so this argument seems less genuine.
I’ve always thought of vegans as being downright insane. Now I don’t know what to think.
